How does a person obtain services? Who do I contact first?

You can begin by contacting the location nearest to where you live:

Do I need a mental health diagnosis from a doctor to use services?

Some of our services do require that you have a diagnosis from a mental health professional before we can begin services. It is best to contact us to find out if this is necessary.

Can you help me find a doctor or mental health professional?

Yes, we can refer you to a psychiatrist or a mental health professional.

How much do services cost?

Most of our services are free. Funding is covered by grants or through insurance. Some insurance-reimbursed services do require that you pay a co-payment.

Do you have to live in a certain area to access community support programs?

You may attend any of the community support programs as long as you are a resident of Hennepin County. Community support programs are scattered throughout Hennepin County to ensure they are accessible to all residents, and you may want to choose the one closest to where you live.

Will you find housing for me if I am homeless?

We do assist people in finding and maintaining housing. We will try to help you find housing that is affordable. However, there are often waiting lists for affordable housing. It is best to contact us for information.

Do you offer services to people with chemical dependency

Although we don’t provide chemical dependency treatment, we do offer education and support groups for people who have a mental illness and chemical dependency. We can also refer you to appropriate treatment programs.

Can you work with my social worker (court, parole officer, job counselor, etc.)?

Yes, we work with other providers to make sure your services are well coordinated.

Will I have opportunities for support and social interaction with people like me?

Our drop-in programs provide opportunities for you to meet and socialize with your peers. Hours vary at each site. You may call for specific details.
