RESOURCEful People – Angela (Staff)
Angela Olander, who is an office manager with RESOURCE’s chemical-health division, describes herself as “a complete nerd,” “a computer geek,” and “a gamer” (computer games). Other people call her “Angela,” “Heidi’s assistant,” and “the gift card lady” (because she dispenses $5 gift certificates to clients who fill out program evaluation forms). Her role is to do “a little bit of everything that needs to be done.”
“I love my job,” she says. “I went to my five-year high school reunion last August, and everyone was saying, ‘I hate my job. I’m not doing what I want to do.’ A friend of mine said, ‘You’re the only person I’ve talked to tonight who has said they like their job.’
“I definitely see myself staying at RESOURCE for quite some time,” she says. “I do everything from evaluation to billing, tracking attendance, helping my supervisor with reports and proposals, proofreading, and making reminder phone calls to staff and committee members about committee meetings. My job is ‘the miscellaneous job,’ but that’s not a bad thing. I love it, because I am a multi-tasker and I like to keep busy. The wheels are always turning in my head.
“One of the things I like about my job is that I have a chance to really talk with clients,” she continues. “While they are filling out evaluation forms, I ask, ‘How are you doing today? What are your plans for the weekend?’ The reason I like my job so much is that I feel I’m making a difference, having an impact. I like being able to look at all the evaluations and see what is working and what is not and being able to figure out what we can do to serve our clients better.”
